Sight + Sound.
A four-session online film discussion series exploring how editing and sound shape cinematic experience.
What this series is about
Over four sessions, we’ll examine how nine carefully selected films use editing and sound to shape emotion, tension, and meaning.
Discussion will focus on the experience of watching these films—how rhythm, montage, music, and sound design guide attention, structure feeling, and deepen engagement with story and character.
The selection spans an early landmark that helped define montage, psychological thrillers whose effects linger well beyond viewing, and modern films in which sound and editing play a central, expressive role.
Sight + Sound is for film viewers who value thoughtful, conversation-driven engagement with film.
Sight + Sound is a live discussion series for people who enjoy engaging deeply with film—how it works, how it feels, and why certain movies stay with us.
Across four sessions, we’ll explore films whose emotional impact comes less from plot than from craft: editing that shapes feeling, sound that guides attention, and rhythm that quietly directs experience. These include films you may be discovering for the first time, as well as films you may be ready to see differently.
Each session is discussion-driven. I provide selected clips, context, and prompts; participants bring observations, questions, and interpretations. The emphasis is on shared exploration and close attention to how cinematic choices create meaning.
This is a focused, conversational series for people who enjoy talking about film with others who watch attentively and thoughtfully.
